| TAFFY WAS BORN Synchronicity Pictures and writer/director/producer David Giardina deliver a solid first feature, Taffy Was Born, a psychologically dark, moody film with Hitchcockian overtones that simply thrilled us! (We love Hitchcock and David delivered the shadowy tone of the Masters touch!) The film follows the Verid Steele, who has returned to his hometown years after a tragedy forced him away. He is eager to begin a new life and reclaim his past, but as with all good drama, things are not that easily obtained. He starts off on a good foot that stumbles and trips, then spirals down into a dark, deep oblivion. Those around him seem determined not to let him uncover his past. The harder he tries, the darker his path becomes. Taffy Was Born has a solid cast and crew. Starting with David Giardina at the helm - whom we are eager to see more work from! Keith Andrews - Director of Photography - fantastic imagery! Jonathan Chambers - Sound Designer/Mixer - Very nice Audio! Igor Dymkov - Music Composer - Very moody! Joe Vassallo - Film Editor - Perfect!! Staring Scott Mitchell Kelly as Verid, Madalyn McKay as Aunt Min, David McDaniel as Father Fell, Lisa Sharpe as Cecilia and Melissa Guion as Bernice... Stellar performances by all! Kudos to everyone! As a side note, I had decided to no longer cover movies, nor write reviews, however, Taffy Was Born was a much needed shot in the arm to change all that! Perhaps it was the Hitchcock flavor, or the solid storytelling -- maybe a mixture of both, but we will continue to cover the independent movie scene thanks to David Giardina and Taffy Was Born. Already racking up the Best Director and Best Feature awards as part of the New York International Independent Film Festival, Taffy Was Born is a film to keep an eye open for. We loved it!
