BLOOD RED PLANET gets an A for effort, but doesn't quite live up to a top notch product. Not that it's extremely bad on it's own, because there are excellent visuals and some nice camera angles, its more along the lines of believability. We just do not get sucked into the story like we would like nor do we feel anything for the people inside the hull of the ship. So strap yourself in and journey into outer space for a ride into what may very well be the end of the world as Rounds Entertainment, the Polonia Bros and John McBride bring us BLOOD RED PLANET! Something is in space and it is not what the Earth wants to see. A Lunar Base detects a small planetoid circling around Mars. Havoc is ripping apart the world and the crew on the Lunar Base are mysteriously silenced. In an attempt to rescue anyone stranded on the base, the Omega 1 space ship is launched to investigate both the base and the planetoid. The Omega 1 crew discover a grisly sight on the lunar base. The astronauts have been ripped to shreds by an unknown force. It is too hard to discover exactly what happened and it may be a possibility they did this to themselves. They are ordered to take off and destroy the base and all evidence, but during their escape launch they run headlong into a group of saucer shaped spacecraft! Thus is the end of the Omega 1É Not to fear! The Omega 2 and it's crew are ready to take up the fight and save Earth from the unseen enemy! They launch into space on a direct intercept with the planetoid! Guided by their computer friend KAL, they learn and speculate with outstanding probability about their potential enemy and devise a plan to reach the planetoid. However some of the crew think that intelligent life may not always be hostile. Maybe contact is in order instead of war. After an attack, the ship is damaged and one of the crew makes a space walk to repaired the problem. He encounters a woman floating in space! She's long dead and not in the best of shape! Wicked and freaky is the best description! The best description the ship's doctor can come up with about her demise is that her brain digested itself! The events start to take a turn for the worse with nightmare images and the planetoid itself! Once inside they discover the secret it carries and the responsibility they have to save the human race from destruction! PRODUCTION NOTES BLOOD RED PLANET is a decent movie for what it tries to do on a limited or no budget! Excellent computer effects are interworked with the live action to help liven it up a bit! Kudos to this element! The story itself really dragged and the acting didn't quite fit right in itself. The live action portions suffered perhaps the most from lack of realistic props whereas the digital work is pure sci-fi. This can be overlooked to a degree, but doesn't quite save the movie in whole. Now, for potential sci-fi moviemakers out there, grab it! The workings of the effects and the lighting really are excellent qualities! Nice tight framing when needed (something we don't see too often and we love)! The scenery on the planetoid itself is very well done if it wasn't for the bloody spacesuits!!! Nice red overtone to the scenery and there are some wicked creature effects that rock! Again, kudos to Mark and John Polonia and Jon McBride for delivering BLOOD RED PLANET! An A for effort and a courageous one at that! Sci-fi is hard! Some parts work great, while others did not. Excellent camera movements and nice editing! Keep up the good work and keep making movies!
