Dennis Devine once again delivers a killer movie! Although a bit dated, DEAD GIRLS none the less shows us a great murder/slasher mystery that packs a who dunnit and gory one-two punch to the jaw! Dennis' movies always thrill us and this one is no exception. Written by Steve Jarvis (and heralded under the Bovine Productions label), Cinematrix Releasing unleashes the madness of a serial killer in DEAD GIRLS!!! DEAD GIRLS is an all girl rock band that is on the verge of going big, but they don't really have talent. They were hired for their looks and have a great following. Tragedy strikes the band when Gina's (the lead singer) sister tries to kill herself because of the bands pro-suicide lyrics. Gina and the girls return home to visit the sister and see what they can do. Gina is confronted by her aunt for not writing or calling her sister and the small town blames the band. The girls have decided to go on a two-week vacation to Gina's family cabin. They are taking Gina's sister and plan on having a fun time to forget the bad ones, but not without flak from the family and local reverend. BUT what no one knows. What no one suspects. What no one would ever dream about. A murderous freak in a skull mask, trench coat and hat taking out those around Gina and stalking the DEAD GIRLS!!! The killer wants them to be real DEAD GIRLS!! The girls go to the cabin and begin their vacation. All seems to be going well, but we know the killer is there. Or is the killer one of them, or their management, or one of the people in the town. Could be Gina's sister or even the reverend, but maybe, just maybe, it's a far out fan. The only clues lie in mysterious messages left for Gina that detail lyrics to their songs after a murder has occurred. Lyrics that describe the murders!!! We have to askÉ Who will survive and what will be left of them? Ok, ok we know, we knowÉ BUT one thing you'll want to check out is what will be left of themÉ PRODUCTION NOTES Hey! We liked it! Again it is dated back to 1991 and looks like possibly some of the late 80's spilled into it, but it was here way before SCREAM and I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER!! Dennis Devine rocked the house with DEAD GIRLS and received notoriety from VARIETY ("Maximum plot twists"), GOLDEN MOVIE REVIEWS ("Graphic Violence!"), and CINEFANTASTIQUE ("Killer just keeps on killing")!! Excellent! We liked DEAD GIRLS most because it shows something special in a low-budget movie. Dennis Devine just has something. Some bit of magic that ties everything up and makes it work and really gets our attention. It sucks you into the story and makes you want to see what happens. By today's standards, it may not work for some, but for those wanting to make movies it is a good thing to grasp and learn how to do. Extremely important! There are some great nightmare sequences that are downright wicked as well as what we would call fun killing scenes! Something elseÉ It's not filled with dumb teenagers. Don't take that wrong. Most slasher movies follow the magic formula of throwing teens together and then offing them left and right. Perhaps something special about DEAD GIRLS is that it is full of adults. Anyway you slice and dice it, DEAD GIRLS is worth a look see from Cinematrix Releasing!! http://unknownproductions.com |
